History Lesson for the Day: Steely Dan

I was listening to Classic Rock on TV.  They have the greatest bits of information they run as sub-text during a song.  Steely Dan was playing just now.  The header said that the band got their name from a novel by William Burroughs by the name Naked Lunch.  Ok, I thought.  I never knew that and always wondered where the name came from so I looked the author/novel up.  Beat Generation it turns out.  Burroughs was a friend of and in the genre of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg.  Long story short.  Steely Dan was a dildo in one of the vignettes contained in this book, Naked Lunch.  Who knew?
